Kuala Lumpur, 2021 – The Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA)’s WomenDivision committee members has made a RM12,700 contribution in cash and kind to Home of Peace in line with MRCA’s “A Good Deed A Week” charity campaign which runs from 8th February until 7th March 2021.
MRCA’s “A Good Deed A Week” charity campaign was initiated by its President Mdm Shirley Tay together with the MRCA Charity Committee. Shirley who witnessed the mock cheque presentation, noted that the campaign is to spread love and good cheer, as a little goes a long way. She said, “The campaign concept is very simple; we believe that we can build a virtuous cycle by encouraging good deeds. While doing a good deed a day may be a burden to some, doing a good deed a week is much more manageable, and it can be very simple gestures. Wehope that this simple initiative can inspire more people to contribute in their ownway, even beyond the campaign period.”
Led by MRCA Treasurer General cum Women Division Chief Dato’ Winnie Lim, her Women committee members brought hand sanitizers, masks and vitamins suitable for children. Besides providing a simple lunch of Subway sandwich sets, the children were also given “ang pows” and soft toys.
Home of Peace based in Taman Bukit Indah, Jalan Klang Lama is currently home to 17 children aged 4 to 19 years old. The home’s dedicated caretaker, Justine Morais home-schools the children, and some of the funds collected has been earmarked for classroom furniture and educational toys. The balance funds will be used to purchase groceries and daily needs. As the home’s residents are from underprivileged families or have experienced some form of abuse before, Justine is especially protective of the children, and there is a strict house rule of notallowing photography with any of them.
Justine commented, “Ever since the start of the MCO last year, we have been tryingto fund raise to ensure we have enough to sustain the home, and this contribution is really a great help to us. Since the children’s needs are all provided, we save all their festive angpows for their education fund after the go beyond 18 years old.”
Dato’ Winnie said, “MRCA’s women’s division has also shown great support for the campaign; one of our committee members cut her waist length hair for Locks of Hope, a NGO which collects human hair to make wigs for cancer patients, especially children. Others have been providing food hampers to the needy. Each time we can contribute, we make this world a little better for everyone.”
